Windows XP takes forever to shut down

Recently my system takes a long time to shut down. It stays at the desktop for about 2 solid minutes and then finally it leaves and shuts down. I can't think of anything that I've done differently except for install programs such as WinMX and FileZilla. I can't see these programs affecting this. I keep my startup programs to a minimum and the maintenance programs like Disk Cleanup and Defragmenter don't help. I'm running a P4 3Ghz with 512MB RAM and 60GB hd.

Does anyone know how I can solve this?

Close all running programs before shutting down.

Yea, I had the same problem. I removed all unnecessary programs. Scanned for spy/ad/virii and used some tweak tool to boost the loading/shutdown times. Hope that helps.

run a check disk. This seems to fix the problem for most our users...
