Safe Mode Issues..

I have some viruses on my computer which I wasn't able to remove, so I was told to start my computer in safe mode. I did this using the System Configuration Utility. But when my computer starts in Safe Mode, and log on there is no desktop and I can only get into the Task Manager. This means I cannot open the System Configuration Utility and tick it so when I restart it starts normally.

Any help on why the desktop isn't being shown or how to get my computer to start normally?

In the Task Manager, click on New Task and type msconfig. Then you can use that to switch it back to normal mode.
