programs close without warning

When I open a program like a game or something, the program stays open, but only for like a minute. Then it closes. It doesn't say it performed an illegal operation or anything like that. It just closes. Not all the programs do this. Some that did though are: Norton AV, the registry, and most all of the games that came along with Win XP. I thought maybe it was a virus, so I booted my computer into safe mode and ran Norton AV (in safe mode everything worked fine) but, Norton didn't detect any viruses. Any ideas on what to do about this is greatly appreciated!

You said they closed after a minute a had a trojan a while back
that would close task manager, Norton Antivirus, regedit, after only a few seconds. You should try running the normal online virus scanners.

I did run ad-aware on it and it found like 266 new objects so I got rid of all them. I'll check out those links next. Thanks for the advice.
