Boot to your xp cd, when it gets to the option of installing xp, that't what you want to do in your case. because then it will give you the option to repair or install a fresh copy of xp. hit r for repair and it will reinstall xp and save your existing files like an upgrade would.

tat doesnt work. i press r and it just brings me to DOS.

Don't press "R" press "Enter" at that screen. Then F8 to get past the EULA. Then on the next screen select the OS and repair it.

How about entering Safe Mode, uninstall and reinstall Firefox and restart?

i cant get into safe mode because it restarts without letting me into windows. can i repair xp pro with a xp home cd?

If you want to get rid of the olds files before reinstalling windows delete the partition that the OS is on and than create a partition in it's place. choose this when you reinstall
