making dvds

well i just got a new dvd burner it was 80$ and it does everything is what the guys says, i know about computers just not about dvds and dvd drives, well when i download a movie is their a way i can burn it to a dvd and make it a dvd format so i can play it on a dvd player? and is their also a software i can copy dvds with, not to give away but for my own personal use =) i heard like alcohol 120% is what i need to get at least thats what i think it is called, well i cant find it in stores or anything. please someone help me.

To burn dvd two good programs are clone dvd and anydvd (to bypass css copyright protection). you need both of them to copy most dvd

clonedvd seems like a very buggy program to me and you have to pay for it.

i vote for dvd decrypt and shrink.
