Looking into upgrading to Windows 8. Why should I not yet?

Is this some kind of secret that your keeping for yourself or can you let us know what your doing to avoid that #!@&*!! Metro start screen. Can you play spider solitaire without it?
I do use Start 8 and that does boot me up straight to the desktop

Edit: I just downloaded the Pokki and will check that out.

I just do what I did in Windows 7 and press the Windows key and search for what I want to run myself. Same thing in 8 with Pokki.

Joe, check this out as well for other Start buttons. With them, they will bypass the Start Screen. For Start8, I can choose not to use any Start Screen features and keep it strictly the desktop if your into that:
