I've been having some issues with my mother's computer (Windows XP).

Instead of starting properly, I receive the message "The logon user interface DLL msgina.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator to replace the DLL or restore the original DLL."

When I try to restart, this screen returns. I also tried to start in safe mode and do a system restore, but the same screen comes up. Any ideas??

Hi gail, do you have a XP disk?

If you do boot from the disk an enter the recovery console an type CHKDSK /R if that dosent work try a repair installation.

Can just copy the file off the XP Disc to the Windows\system32 folder.

Saxon a Check Disk will only check to see if the hard drive has and bad spots or sectors. Wont really help fix the issue. ;)

You will have to use the Recovery Console to replace the file. I would seriously check into the disk integrity as losing a file essential to windows logon is not a small thing.

Yes i figured that out after i took a minute to think about the problem. You were right to suggest that first. I was wrong to jump the gun.
