Duplicate processes running in task manager...

Hi all,

Help a noob out and explain why I would have 9 svchost.exe running simultaneously. I don't have any system performances issues per say... just wondering why this is and if it has any detrimental effects to performance.

As long as its svchost.exe and running in the system32 directory, then you're ok. It uses it to update and connect outward, I believe.

You could go into services.msc -- from the run prompt, and turn off some services that you know for a fact you don't need. I'm pretty sure this can limit the number of svchosts.exe's running, or at least the number of processes.

EDIT: but like the above poster said, as long as they are svchost.exe's and running in that directory then they are microsoft processes and will not be detrimental to your system.
