Vista is a memory hog. The copy I have uses 500mb at idle without anything installed. I think it was Beta 2.

Beta 2 did use more memory. But Build 5536, the newest one out htere doesnt use that much. I know quite a few people that have no problem running it on 512MB RAM. The only one that does runs 512 PC133 which doesnt even deserve to try and run Vista.

So when M$ releases RC1 you will see that it doesnt take as much resources as it did before. Hence the Beta tag.
