Still with XP but toying with Windiws 7

I have plug-in hard drives each with a different OS

I am using Raxco's Perfect Disk which is perfect on the first plug-in XP drive but on any further drives with XP, it cannot find the boot files. Raxco will not reply so does anyone have a fix or can suggest and alternative equivalent or better defragmenter please

I am concerned that Perfect Disk will hsve a similar problem in Windows 7

How many drives were present when you did the installs of XP? XP by default, as with Windows in general, will place all the boot files on the very first partition of the very first disk no matter where the rest of the install is going. Since that is the partition and drive that is accessed during the boot. So when your trying to use multiple drives you have to make sure that there is only that drive installed when you install Windows.

You will have to use the XP CD to fix the foot. fixboot and fixmbr are the 2 commands needed.
