So I have a Sony Vaio FW465J that has Vista 64 bit defaulty installed. I bought it in the Free Windows 7 Upgrade period, but guess what..... Sony doesn't allow virtualization on their computers and disables the BIOS for it. I can't use the XP mode in Windows 7 so I want to dual boot it. When the XP setup finishes loading all of the .dll files and what not after startup, my computer blue screens. I have entered the error message into a search engine and found that I may have a bad boot sector, on a two month old computer? Is there anyway to fix this without clean installing Vista? Should I wait to retry when I upgrade to Windows 7, or do it beforehand?

Core 2 Duo, 4 GB Ram, 20 GB partitioned and NTFS formatted for XP, 320 GB 7200 RPM hard drive

Thanks in Advance!

Thank You! I have actually had an iso file of a Vista Recovery disc on my computer, but hadn't burned it to a disc yet. Now I will and try that to see if I can get it to work since Vista doesn't have a recovery console. I found the equivalents to the commands you gave me for Vista. I really appreciate your help. If anyone else has any suggestions please post them as well so I may have multiple options.
