Thanks for the suggestions and advice. Upgraded with 2gb and now have 3gb of memory total. The thing is I don't like the fact that Dell shipped my laptop with 2gb (1gb in each memory slot) instead of just giving me one 2gb module. If they had I would have 4gb now instead of 3 but then again I've heard that my 1520 can only operate 3.2 gb of memory on it's 32 bit platform. To use 4gb of memory I would have to upgrade to Vista 64 bit, which kinda sounds stupid to me. With regards to Vista I'm not really sure what everybody is complaining about.....I love the Vista operating system.
