Default reinstalling windows

I want to give my old dell to my brother but its really messed up. I have a hard time even turning it on.

How do i re-install windows xp so its like how it was when i first got it?

I have the recovery disk, i tried putting it in but it didnt work.

Change the boot order in the BIOS so that it allows the CD to be booted from before the hard drive.

um.. ok after it was done loading it took me to the blue set up screen. i have 3 options.

-To set up Windows XP now press enter

-To repair a Windows XP installation using recovery console press R

-exit

do i set up or repair?

press Enter then follow the instructions u need to press F8 to agree i think then will need to format the do it to NTFS continue the setup its not to hard. just like installing anyother program yes, yes yes, i accept, yes contioue lol yea its easier than people think. Just make sure you format the hard drive to NTFS and and have your Cd key on hand

if i install it will it automaticly delete the old broken windows i had on there?

Yeah the previous Windows will be overwritten when the drive is formatted.
