Default No power to laptop

I have a Sony Vaio laptop. It won't boot. Its about 4+ years old. I think the battery is bad. Looking for opinion before I buy a battery. Is there anything else that could be wrong.

Thanks Tony

Try to get another battery from someone to try it out.

Look at the status of the power lights, they usually give you some information about the status of the power.

Check the power management options.

*Your laptop does start with the AC adapter plugged into an outlet, right?
Can you also post what your laptop model is too.
