Hi,
I have an Inspiron 4100 with XP prof, it has a builtin 3com Integrated ethernet card. From last one year I am using it with my cable modem.
But from last one week, suddenly I started getting a message "network cable unpugged" and it is not able to recognise the network.
Even the lights are not flashing when I connect the cable to the network adapter.

I have checked the lan cable and modem, they are working perfectly with other laptop. I tried in my office lan, still the same problem. I have called dell support and they took me through the diagnostic procedures, and says my network adapter is working fine.
I have also tried using pcmca ethernet cards, still it is not able to recognise the network.
can anyone please help me in this regard.

Thanks.

I would go to a command prompt and run NETSH int ip reset resetlog.txt
also try:
Search for the nettcpip.inf file and right click it, and choose install.

If neither of those work, boot to the Windows XP CD and do a repair on the XP Partition.

my apologies for being so late in replying.
I have tried a netgear pcmcia adapter, it is working fine.
it seems like my NIC is faulty.

Thank you
