I need your opinions

I would like to be more "green" and save some energy by powering down my PC at night and when I'm not home. My question is...is it better to completely shut down the computer, or to put it on Stand by. I've been putting it on standby, but every once in awhile the screen won't come back up and I have to push the restart button. So, would turning it off be better, or does that put more wear and tear on the parts?

Turning off the computer is what you are supposed to do every night when you don't use it. Putting it on standby is what might wear down the parts. Also, when you put it on standby, the computer might still be using power.
