As far as gameplay is concerned for games such as Everquest II, Doom 3, and Half Life 2, would I recieve better performance if I stayed with my 9600 Pro and put in 1GB of Corsair XMS or stayed with 512 of my major brand RAM and bought a 9800 Pro?

Get an x800 Pro or Nvidia 6800 Ultra. Whatever you choose, the graphics card will affect your gameplay much more than the move from 512 to 1GB of RAM.
