Default carputer

Ok, I have a weird question for all the smart people out there. Can a cars ecu be adapted to use as a home pc? Or any ideas about anything cool to do with the cars ecu? Also can a laptop be used to act as an automobiles sole ecu? I know that's a lot but I hope someone can bat some ideas around.
