trouble with a dvd drive and networking

well first things first lets talk about the dvd drive
well basicly it reads discs when booting but the thing is when i go to my computer the dvd drive isnt there i just reformated my pc

and on to the network issue
we had a working network connection before the format but now we just cant seem to set one up between us its not setting up automatically and the manual process bombed for me. we use an ethernet cross over cable and its in securely and both our ethernet cards light up to intecate(sp) that its reading its connected...

a1: Install all motherboard drivers, drivers, windows updates, services packs. Then install the DVD drive drivers. Refer to website of DVD drive.

yah thats the problem....i cant no dvd drive....the thing is last time we formated that pc we had no problem with the dvd drive so it dostn need drivers...besides who makes it so u need drivers for a dvd drive
