Thanks all for the help on the other thread.

Slaymate mentioned I might have a heat problem, and I think I do. The ICH temp idling went to 86c, when I touched the heat sink it was pretty hot. This is not right, is it? Is the mobo faulty?

This time I got a pretty bad batch from newegg, I think.

Any heatsink in use will be hot, most extremely hot. That is their purpose, to take heat from the chip and give that chip more surface area in order for the heat to dissipate off the heatsink. So in short a hot heatsink means nothing.

So is 86c the temp of your south bridge?

the mobo is a intel dg33fb. On Newegg reviews everyone loved it. But I think it was shutting down because the south bridge got too hot. It's got to be faulty, right?

Now I have a case ban blowing on it and it is stabilized at 65c. But I don't like being dependant on a case fan.

The north bridge heat sink is a lot cooler to the touch.

Yes I've seen 86c in the bios. The temp rises quickly after starting. While I was troubleshooting my starting problems the computer would often shut down, and I believe it was because of the south bridge being too hot.
