No lights on the card may mean it isn't seated properly, the power supply isn't going to the slot, or the card itself is not any good. Try it in a different slot. The lights can malfunction, but not under normal use. Usually.

Well he ended up getting a new card, still a no go.

He just drove 2 hours to go to Best Buy, he bought a wireless router, and a USB wireless adapter...

Thinking maybe that electricity got to the mobo/ports...BUT why would it show them connected? Maybe a strong enough connection for that but not for actually working?

Try what superdave sed, plug the card into a different slot. sometimes the slot is bad, or just not connecting with the card fully.
