Default my computer keeps freezing in 3d games

i have a radeon 9600XT and it plays 2d games just fine. but everytime i play a 3d game, it runs perfectly for the first five minutes and then all of a sudden freezes for 20 seconds, playing the same sound over and over again. After 20 secs, it works fine again for another couple of minutes before doing the same thing. plz help.

Get new drivers? Reinstall them? make sure u got direct x 9c? Or try this, goto start - run - type dxdiag, then goto display and run the 3d tests.

Time for a new card....that one is not up to snuff. You can get a 6600gt for cheap and your pain will be over.

I think this sounds like an overheating problem or just a bad video card. I used to have a 9600 and would play warcraft 3 and it would just freeze up and loop the sound. Then I got a new card and wala it worked perfectly.
