I've seen this problem in a customers PC, Turned out there was a ton of spy ware
cleaned it up and re-recommended to run the spy ware program on a regular basis and all the games worked again. Especially on a older system, too much going on and the system locks right up. A game will tax the system and if there are things running in the background (spy ware) then it becomes too much for the system to handle and locks right up. Not saying this IS your problem but it's a possibility, especially if it used to run the games without any trouble.
