Thumbs down Dead Hard drive? Use USB?

Hi, yesterday my hard drive broke so I need to get a new one, while I'm waiting, can I install windows from my USB on the same USB? In other words, how can I choose how big a partition is?

Windows (by default) cannot install to detachable media, even if it recognizes it as a "USB HDD".

Why not just use Ubuntu til you get a new hard drive?
