Does Quad Core Matter?

Overclocking cores separately, would be interesting. But what purpose would it serve? Maybe the temperatures won't be as high. And where'd you hear of this?

temps would be the main purpose i suspect....
i cant remember where i read it....some tech magazine, but it was from awhile back...like close to the release of c2d.
