Anyone else got any other opinions on this?

I really had no intentions of overclocking, though.

Even if not, the 970 will run hotter and use more electricity, if you don't care about that though then by all means get it! :P

Plus it's more expensive. If I'm not mistaken, a 970 is a factory-overclocked 955. So in a sense, you would be overclocking anyways if you got a 970.

Theoretically speaking, yes.

Don't you think the 955 would be better? :P there isn't much difference is there for the difference in price?

A factory overclocked 955 or is the 955 a factory underclocked 970.

You can try to spin the facts anyway you want but that is just not true.

If your not going to overclock then you should buy the fastest cpu you can afford. I'm siding with the 970.

I agree also taking into consideration it's in a good combo deal.

OK, so this is what I have, using a lot of what you suggested, Abstract. I changed a few things around, but nothing too major:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...k=phenom%20970

Newegg.com - MSI 890FXA-GD70 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Newegg.com - Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Just need to add opticals, a heatsink, and determine which GPU to go with. There are so many different GTX 460's, what's the difference between them all and the price differences? Also, since it is an AMD build, should I go with an ATI/AMD card? I read in another thread that the HD6850 is equal to the 460, but I didnt see either of them in the GPU list in the stickies.
