You guys are saying the pricing is $3.17 per gigabyte, which would mean 750gb drives costing over 2100 dollars.

Obviously, it's a mistake you guys made, so just a heads up :0

veedubfreak,

I have a huge deal for you. I'm able to get hard drives at only $2.50 per GB. Go through me, and you'll save considerably from your $3.17 per GB plan.

woah, that's insane amounts of HD space, haha,

so nub question here, what is raid5 or w/e
i got like no idea whatsoever. what is it, what is its advantages, and how is it different to me being a chump, buying some harddrives and just plugging them in.

Just a simple fraction flip.
750 - 0.25$
500 - 0.23$

And answer flip, apparently.

Nah, im taking into the equation that im losing 1 drive. Raid 5 uses 1 drive for parity, so the more drives you use the less it costs you for the space.

Aether, what size/brand/model drives are you talking about. Also, dont forget to take 1 drive out of the storage equation to get the price of the storage space.

I was actually mocking your mistake. Even if you got the expensive 1000 GB 7200.11 drives, $3.17 per GB is still way over.

Five 1000GB drives @ $300 each = $1500.

$1500 / 4000GB (the other 1000GB is used in parity) = 37.5 cents per GB

So if you paid me $2.50 per GB, I'd be making $8500.
