widescreen monitor?

with widescreen monitors, will the picture be formatted to widescreen all of the time, or will it only be for movies, etc... if it is always in widescreen, will pictures be distorted(widened) or will i just have more horizontal space for the same sized stuff?

It depends on the settings and features on the monitor and your video card software.

where would i look/ what would i look for to find out... im not 100% sure yet, but my videocard will likely be a 7600gt, 7800gt, or 7900gt and im currently considering the benq 20.1" widescreen

You can set the desktop picture to the normal size.

With that setup, none of the pictures or text will be stretched. (except the desktop picture mentioned above)

Widescreen notebooks will automatically stretch the screen. I'm guessing your PC will too.
