Default Upgrade or New Computer

I currently have an HP XW8200 workstation that I use for DCC. It's quite old and has dual xeon processors, 4GB of 400mhz RAM, and an nVidia FX 3400. Would it be better for me to buy a new computer for gaming, or upgrade my workstation? I want something along the lines of a Q6600 processor, and a 1GB 9800GT, I'll probably have to upgrade the 500W power supply and the motherboard too. How much would these upgrades roughly cost?

build a new machine.

What is your budget?
What games do you want to play?

a q6600 and 9800gt are rather old yet nice components.

A good machine would be around $500 while a top of the line machine would be between $1000 to $1500

Meh, my budget is around $600-700 I guess. I would get the i7 9200 if it ever went down to like $500
