When I bought my PC, windows XP came with it, so its OEM. Now I am upgrading my HD, I know I can simply copy my OS from old HD to the new one, but my PC is quite messy with countless apps and progs. I want to install XP as new on the new HD. I have the recovery CD. I could restore XP on this drive and then copy it to the new one, but I have some large files on this drive which will be erased if I do so.
However I could move all my files to the partitions that won't be erased for example the D: drive as in my case, restore XP on C: and then copy the C: partition (which only has the restored/new XP on it and nothing else) onto the new HD. I'm hesitant to do this right now, just want some assurance from you guys, is this possible and will everything be smooth?
Also, it will recognise that its the same system and won't ask me to put a new key, activation or stuff like that, would it?
