I am building a new machine for a family member as a wedding gift. They don't have a PC and really need one. I am debating whether to go cheap an build an AMD system as they aren't hardcore gamers but are average users, or upgrade my system and give them parts from my machine.

My question is whether or not its worth it to spend the extra money on my own machine to get an i7 930, which would include a new motherboard and DDR3 . My specs are listed below except I added another 4GB's of Ram and am running Windows 7 now. My other reasoning for the upgrade is I would really like to get a GTX 470/480, and I am wondering if my Q9550 is a little slow.

no, i don't think it'd be worth it to upgrade your rig, you'd be spending a good bit of money doing so and your current system should work w/ a gtx 470/480 pretty well.

if they are just average users, web-surfing and whatnot, they should be fine with like, an athlon ii build w/ 2 or maybe 4gigs of ram on integrated video.
