Default Hooking up a second hard drive

Ok so if 1 IDE links the optical drive, motherboard and hard drive would installing a second hard drive mean i need another IDE?

What is the Make and Model of your PC? If it's not a Dell, HP, etc... we'll need to know what motherboard you have. Or you could use an External Drive that uses a USB connection.

The PC is Sempron 3400 and the extra hard drive i want to put in it is from a Dell will that still work?
