HDD SATA 1gb/3gb/6gb realy matter?

Since a HDD can never come close to filling 1gb/s does it really matter if my mobo has sata 1gb,3gb,6gb/s ?

3Gbps is the norm of today. 6Gbps is a newer technology, but HDDs still have to catch up to that speed.

with a standard "platter" Hard Disk Drive it's not going to make much of a difference.

With a SSD, or Solid State Drive, it will make a difference. A 1st or 2nd generation drive will come close to maxing out a 3GB/s port and you'll definitely want a mobo with 6GB/s ports for the new 3rd generation SSD's.
