The only thing that Gigabyte I-RAM drive would be good for is a virtually silent HTPC. You could install windows media center on it with like (4) 1GIG sticks, and a few important apps, like DVD player or media player... and the necessary drivers...Then Network that HTPC to another media storage PC... Use like a Pentium M with some really small quiet fan...

actually it has all sorts of uses, like working with files that need to be used at higher bandwidth or frequently accessed, like suppose you have a server for a torrent site, instead of making a ramdrive from system ram you could use that thing instead.........alot of servers these days can and do use system ram as storage, saves overhead when your constantly gzipping and unzipping files for example

you could also use it as a scratch drive, saves wear and tear on a hard drive

thing is still massively expensive though

Been wondering about a concept like this for a while...flash media is certainly big enough now for a small partition for an OS which would significantly increase the speed of any computer...although I don't think you can configure windows to boot from anything other than an ATA style device

linux can though, becoming quite common to boot linux from flash drives these days, there's even a filesystem just for that, it moves things around so the same sectors dont get used over and over, flash drives wear out fairly quickly
