I wasn't sure where to post this question so i'm posting it in the off topic area, if it needs to be moved, just do so. I have a USB powered scanner. Should I leave it plugged in all the time or just when I need it, which is once a week or so? The reason i'm asking, is cause everytime I turn my computer on, the scanner does it's startup noise and recalibration thing.. Would it be better for the scanner and the computer if I just plug it in when I need it?

It really makes no difference but if the noise annoys you then plug it in when you need it. My scanner does the same and it annoys me so i only plug it in when i plan on using it. The only problem that may arise form that is in some cases you have to start the computer up with it plugged in for it to work right. Xp is usually good at recognizing usb devices without restarting, so do what is better for you. You should not experience any issues though with starting your scanner calibrating on startup though.
