HAd lightning to strike the power line in front of our house when I was a kid. Luckily, I was looking out the window when it happened.
The lightning struck the line and sort of hesitated a split second, then therewas a huge blue-white explosion of electricity that reached the ground (about 20' radius). The lights immediately went out, but the live end of the wire was snapping and popping on the ground, jumping around like a snake on a BBQ, spitting sparks. Mom had to go out to my granny's to call the power company (took out the phone line, too).
The thunderclap rattles the entire house. Its weird... the smell of ozone and metal dust... I can close my eyes and still smell it.
