Yup, it's time to start shopping for my christmas presents.. lol, i do it this early so i don't rush it and just jump to whatever looks shiny...

This year, I've decided to get a better camera.

So, help me out TF.

Heres what i'm looking for.

5+ MP's
5X + zoom
$200-$300
Atleast 15fps video
SD interface
A "Nightflash" would also be good

Battery type (AA, AAA, Battery pack, built in) doesn't matter. I'd rather NOT have a built in though.

I reall don't know what to look for in a good camera, so here's a few i picked out.

well it'd be nice to have a camera set for when the time comes because i need to know how much i may have to pay.. i think parents would pay for 200...And in the next few months i have to pay my dad $~700... so i need to know how much i need to put aside for the camera.

btw... was that sarcasm?

i'm gonna get this one here (Canon SD630):

my sister got it before me (i showed it to her) and it's pretty sweet... nice shutter lag, nice quality, HUGE screen, etc

check out dpreview for a review of it, they have a nice one, but all around i would definatelly recommend the canon name

o and btw i've been gone a lot cause i've had the flu and stuff, havn't even been able to walk for most of the week, let alone make it to the computer to have a conversation of any type

EDIT: oh look, if you buy it with a 1.6TB network storage, um..., drive? you get 200 dollars off :)

hello ebay!! lmao

Well, since 3 of your choices apparently don't exist, that should make it a little easier. :amazed:

lol yea, i proabably would have found that site somewhere... before i buy it i do a shopping.com search, froogle search, ebay search, and then a google search... my sis got it for about the same price i think.

(the second post - choices) thats tough... i mean personally im gonna be bringing mine places like mt baker and need it to be smaller (less than 1"), but thats just me

It gets hard trying to pick out of a bunch of items just because i haven't looked into them as deeply as i have with the sd630.

what i have found though, is that if it's under 250 and has more than 6mp, the quality can in no way be deturmined by the number of pixels, simply because it will not have a fast enough engine(?) to write a file that large with reasonable shutter speed, so it compresses it..... badly

When it comes down to it, the reason i chose canon over other brands, is that they all advertise "neat" features... touch screen, 10mp, ISO compressions, etc... but really after the first month you will never use these features... 10mp images fill a card pretty fast, you get tired of cleaning the touchscreen, the ISO compression is crap, etc etc... so what IS important is the ability to customize the pictures in any and every way possible.

Check out the canon site for the camera... it has some really cool examples of the image customizations or w/e they're called... http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/c...resAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=12956&pageno=5

But personally, i would say the most important thing is shutter lag... who cares about image quality when the picture itself is off center or the people in it look weary from smiling for 5 seconds... Especially at parties where the booze get tossed around a bit
