I have done some research, and some sites say you need them, and some say you don't. Anyone have any thoughts or comments they'd like to share ? I downloaded Clam Antivirus (for Linux) but haven't installed it yet. Not sure if I need it since there are some contradicting answers that I have found so far. Thanks in advance !

EDIT: Apologies if this belongs in the Linux forum, I just figured it belonged here because of the nature of my question being antivirus-related.

Technically no. The reason for it is because with the many different distros of Linux out there the chace you will actually get infected is like so slim it is less than 1%. So honestly no. Most virus's affect Widnows and OS X since they do not have so many different version.

also with most distros of linux you are running as a limited user and the system asks for permission to temp log in as root to do system tasks.
