I would really like an answer to this question before my husband comes home. I came home and saw that Yahoo Messenger was open (I never use it), and the user name is something like "manlooking4woman". I freaked out and called to ask him what was going on, and he says that it's probably due to spyware or a virus or something. He claims that someone probably uploaded something to our computer while he was downloading something from one of those file sharing programs. Is this possible?

Yes. What "User Name" do you mean? Was it just an IM window? Sometimes when you leave any IM program online...you will get unwanted IM from unknown users. It's bascially SPAM. Anyway if your concerned.......

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running.

Also make sure you are using the the latest version (1.99.1) of HijackThis and it's installed in it's own folder on the root drive. (C:\HJT)

Then download hijackthis..and do a scan. Post it's log in the hijackthis section and I will go through it for you.
