Pidgin Help

I want to install Pidgin on my MacBook (10.4.9) and I tried doing it through Fink but I could not find the right package. Can someone help me or is there anything that is better than Adium that I could use, I tried it and hated it for not working as nicely as Pidgin. Thanks.

You can compile, but good luck - that's like pulling teeth in OS X.

Personally, I prefer Adium to Pidgin, but meh, to each their own...

Could someone possibly post the really newbie version of the instructions for compiling?
