I have an opportunity to wire my house for data and video. I want to provide wired access to the internet and to NAS and internet video streaming.

Is there any reason not to run cat 6a Ethernet (as opposed to 5e or 6)? What about STP vs TP? For coax, dual or quad shield?

Any hints on providers? I've been looking at Cable Wholesale online, and I've got a local Graybar.

Thanks for your help.

If you can afford Cat 6, go for it. There is nothing physically different with the cabling and connectors. Just the fact it supports over 1000Mbit connections. If I'm going to lay cable, it will be Cat 6...at least for the backbone cable if I don't do fibre.

Shield Twisted Pair vs Twisted Pair. Shielded protects against interference if you have to run by a bunch of power cables, etc.

Go with the quad coax.

Monoprice is the king for this kinda stuff, imo. Mind you if your local place has the near the same prices, go to them.
