No I didn't say ping that address it was just an example. You want to ping the ip address of the other computer. If you don't know the address go on the other computer open up command prompt type in ipconfig /all.

the ip address of the server pc is 192.168.1.100
the ip address of the client pc is192.168.1.101

when i ping from the server to the client it works.

when i ping from client to server i get request timed out 4 x.

Thats your problem, you can't even ping the server so no way the printing share will work. Start by verify your NIC card is working properly by going on each of the computer and doing a

ping 127.0.0.1

this will do a loopback to test your nic. If you get a reply then good, now verify the cable and swap them around, if good then check router port by using different port on the router. Tell how it goes.

the loopback was good. got a reply on both pcs.
what do you mean by verify the cable and swap them around?

Just to check the cable you can switch them around and ping the other computer again. Like use the client cable on the server and vice versa.
