Making A home server

We now have a totel of 3 computers and one laptop in the house, and plenty of spare PC parts.

I have thought about setting up a single server which to store programs, manage firewalls and anti-virus etc. which all the computers are linked to.

Could someone point me to a guide to which tells what I need to make a home server? I use a combination of windows xp and Windows 98.

Any quistions just ask.

to have a true client/server relationship, you'll need a Network Operating System, such as Novell Netware, Windows Server, or certain Linux distros.

If you don't plan on running a full web/email/etc type server Windows2000 or XP will do. Here is a link to some guides that should help some. http://pcmech.com/build.htm
