I decided to try and use my wireless card on my router at home.

PROBLEM:
I get the following error:
***
"This connection has limited or no connectivity.
You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources..."
(yellow triangle with exclamation point)
"Limited or no conncectivity.
***

My Signal Strength is strong (Laptop is 3' from router).
When I ping 192.168.0.1 from laptop over wireless Router does not reply.
Laptop does not show in Router Attached devices.

The router works fine with my laptop for file sharing and internet access when connected by cable.
The wireless card in my laptop works at T-Mobile hotspots and other public/private wireless networks
(even after installing XP SP2)

I thought it would be a no brainer since I have Netgear Router and Adapter.

!WRONG!

Here are my hardware and OS parameters:
Router: NetGear MR814v2
Wireless Adapter: NetGear WAG511
Laptop OS WinXP SP2

Here is my Router Wireless Config:
Wireless: SomeName
Name (SSID): Network
Region: United States
Channel: 01
Wireless Access Point
Enable Wireless Access Point: on
Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID): on
Wireless Card Access List: none
Security Encryption (WEP)
Authentication Type: Automatic
Encryption Strength: Disable
Security Encryption (WEP) Key: not enabled

Here's what I've already tried:
-Rebooting/reloading/plugging/unplugging all components.
-Loading latest firmware to router.
-Loading latest drivers to adapter.
-"Use Windows to configure my wireless settings": on & off
-NetGear Wag511 Smart Wizard: on & off
-Submit inquiry to NetGear

I think the problem is with the router not giving the

Can anyone give me some guidance?

Thanks in advance!

I would try to set a static ip try to enable wep if that doesn't work connect directly to router and see if you can get on

thanks mre30,

I got it working - I was going to try the static IP - but I did a few things before - and they did the trick.

I took the machine to a public wireless network yesterday and verified that my NetGear WG511 adapter worked. It did.

It worked using the latest Netgear Utility (Driver Version 3.0.0.143 and Smart Wireless Version 3.0.8.0). I also had the Wireless Connection Property for Wireless Networks "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" unchecked.

I changed one other setting on the machine - in Control Panel, System Properties, Advanced Tab, I set "Perfomance" Settings to "Adjust for best Performance" previously it was set to "Custom".

Thanks.

Here's what NetGear Support suggested - it's classic:

Dear Zzz,

Thank you for contacting Netgear Support. My name is Xxx & I will be handling your enquiry.

I suggest you to uninstall XP SP2 as it is causing problem with most of the hardware devices and Microsoft is working on the patch for the same. Till the patch is released do not use Windows XP SP2.

Regards

Xxx

A couple more changes I think are important - I forgot to mention:

I changed settings for all my other connections to make sure they were disabled.

IE Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Connections(tab)/"Never dial a connection" clicked. (I have a dial up connection configured for back up)

Control Panel/Network Connections/I1394 Connection/Status/Disabled

Control Panel/Local Area Connection for Ethernet/Disabled

Now when I use my LAN connection I disable Wireless and vice versa.
