ICS with vista and xp

Ok well i have a xp sp2 laptop that i would like to set up ics with my vista ultimate sp1 desktop with a router. now i followed the sticky on ics but i still have no net on my desk top. i am lost now and dont know what to do. any help would be greatly appreciated.

edit: i forgot the lappy is connecting to the net through a wireless lan and i am trying to ics with a lan cable and router
