how is the privacy with home networking?

for example dsl shared with my computer and a roomates computer.


will they be able to access files on my computer?

will they be able to check my internet history?

privacy goes as far as you let it go.
you can disable file and printer sharing on your computer and have zero access to your pc over the network, or you can setup accounts and passwords for your network shares. either way, it shouldn't impeed your shared internet connection. but let me ask you this.....
how is your internet connection shared? through a gateway/router?
what operating systems are we dealing with here?
