help connecting on new build

so i just finshed building my rig and installed xp. i connected my ethernet cable to the lan port, got a green light on the posrt, figured it was a good sign. i now cant figure out how to setup my connection. does it have to do with bios settings?pleasde help quick

how dp i do that. sorry ive been using a mac for the last few years and pc stuff is not my specialty right now

If you want to network 2 computers only you could use crossover cable.
for this to be done, you only need to add network card to both computers. Then connected the cable to both pc.
Then just enter your computer name and workgroup to network identification
for connecting 3 or more computers, you need a hub or switch.

umm, im trying to get my computer connected to my network and be able to access the internet, not connect 2 computers only

and no i dont need a hub or anything for this. i just need to do something but we havent figured out what

what kind of network do you want to setup, i mean network all of your computers in your house or connect to the network of your school or office?
