I don't game but my kids do. I upgraded from a G to an N router and my kids complained of lag so I replaced that router with this one: D-Link dgl-4500 Extreme Gaming router and they no longer complain of lag. Newegg has it for about a hundred bucks.

Are you using an ADSL2+ connection? (it uses a phone line)
If so, I might suggest a Billion 7800N modem/router
It's pretty good at handling a lot of NAT sessions, and has QOS.
If you get a regular router, you'll need to connect it to your existing modem/router, which is usually not ideal.
You'll probably want to configure the existing modem/router to put the new router in a DMZ if you do it that way.
