1 kbps! HELP!

i have been having that problem with my computer for about a month now and i cannot figure out why it only downloads at on average 3 kbps and i have cable modem. i dont think it should be this slow. i am not sure if there are any settings that i should check and see that may make it faster. i am running on a router and do have 3 other computers running off of the router, but right now i am the only computer online and i am only downloading at 2.3kbps. i have looked around and tried some different things but i cant figure it out. any help would be appreciated.

thats unusual with shaw...i usually get 1MB per second.

have you checked out your hardware, IE modem, cables, router?
Are any cables frayed or disconnected?
