ok, on a linux box i ripped a dvd.
then, using samba, i sent it to my 2k box.

it ripped the file in in THINK .vok format.. or something lkike that.

winamp, media player ect dont play that file type.

How can I change this .vok (i think) to a .avi video?

thanks

Al

If you did that sonds like you ripped it into a vog orbis format, which is natively not compatible with windows, and you prob didnt rip it really either, just copied it.

Get mplayer for linux, it comes with an encoder/decoder called mencoder.

The after its installed run this :

mencoder dvd://1 -o filename.avi -oac pcm -ovc lavc

try that, check the man page for options, not sure if I got the syntax or options right, but that should give you a rip of the dvd in avi format with probably divx codec and pcm sound and start at chapter one of the dvd.

There's a TON of options with mplayer/mencoder........you can do prettymuch anything video playback or ripping related with it.

hmm...
